EU Brief - London

[LONDON, Aug 15 11:40 GMT] A brief rally during the Asian session, 1.3267 to 1.3311, suspected jobbing demand with a view to selling out above 1.3300. Into Europe and the engine ran out of fuel as Assumption holidays sapped interest and liquidity. A relatively tight 1.3278 to 1.3297 range played out with the bulk of the action much tighter and focused around a 1.3290 pivot. Cable sales data reaction failed to drive a bid into EUR/USD and EUR/GBP came quite a bit easier, 0.8555 to 0.8523. EUR/USD heavy above 1.3300, risk to 1.3240 under 1.3265, but it will probably take out of line US data to fire up the volatility again. We remain bear biased on the EUR but admit that improving EZ fundamentals are beginning to cloud the near term picture. Sideways price action within a tight range to continue into the US data releases at 12:30 GMT.
