European Preview: BOE, ECB and Bernanke
A big market moving session ahead with BOE's rate decision in focus at 12.00GMT followed less than one hour later by ECB's rate decision at 12.45GMT. To this, UK rates are unanimously expected to be left on hold at 5.75%; and despite some division, given the current consensus amongst economists and markets, so to will European rates at 4.00%.
However more focus will be on the ECB's statement and Trichet's press conference at 13.30GMT, to potentially trigger a strong move in the high flying Euro as Trichet turns to provide the CB's outlook on growth and inflation. Setting the tone, first and foremost will be on whether its "strong vigilance" and "accomodative" statement with respect to policy is omitted again or re-instated. Last month the ECB also made sure to highlight downside risks to growth, and this will be eyed again to see if its views have been tweaked.
Datawise, Swiss Oct unemployment (f/c 2.6%) is due and German Sept trade (f/c 16bn); whilst in the US, wkly jobless claims feature, but key for mkts will be for clues from Fed Chief Bernanke when he testifies before the Joint Econ Committee 15.00GMT
